Global AMOLED mobile phone panel market in 2023: Korean manufacturers plummeted, while Visionox and Tianma Micro increased their rankings
Electronic Enthusiast Network reported (Text/Liu Jing) Recently, the market research organization CINNO Research released a report on global AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments in 2023. The report shows that AMOLED smartphone panel shipments in the global market will be approximately 690 million units in 2023, an increase of 16.1% compared to 2022.
In 2022, global AMOLED smartphone panel shipments fell 10.3% year-on-year to 600 million pieces. Starting from Q1 of 2022, after five quarters of negative year-on-year growth, global AMOLED smartphone panel shipments finally successfully reversed the trend and achieved positive year-on-year growth in the second quarter of 2023.
According to statistics from CINNO Research, the quarterly shipments of AMOLED smartphone panels in the global market from Q2 to Q4 in 2023 were 140 million pieces, 180 million pieces, and 240 million pieces, representing year-on-year increases of 12.9%, 29.6%, and 30.9% respectively. The good performance of year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter growth for three consecutive quarters in Q2-Q4 has supported AMOLED smartphone panel shipments to achieve positive growth of 16.1% in 2023.
The strong recovery of the AMOLED mobile phone panel market will not only benefit panel manufacturers, but also an important business opportunity for display driver chip companies that have been trapped for a long time to end the decline in performance. At present, the participants in the AMOLED mobile phone panel market are mainly Korean and Chinese manufacturers, including Samsung Display, BOE, CSOT, Visionox, LG Display, etc. Domestic companies engaged in the design and development of AMOLED display driver chips include Zhongying Electronics, Xinxiang Micro, Chitron North, Yunyinggu, Shenghe Micro, Sheng Micro, Aixiansheng, Ourede, etc.
Driven by the continued boom in demand, flexible AMOLED mobile phone panels experienced an overall price increase in the fourth quarter, and terminal panel manufacturers are also looking for opportunities to increase prices. Among them, panel leader Samsung Display was the first to announce a price increase starting in 2024. The price increase of AMOLED mobile phone panels will be further transmitted to upstream chip manufacturers. News came out of the supply chain today that screen-related semiconductor chip factories have sent price increase letters to terminal manufacturers.
According to data from CINNO Research, the top five global AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments in 2023 are Samsung Display, BOE, Visionox, Tianma Microelectronics, and LG Display.

Among them, Samsung Display’s AMOLED mobile phone panels have a global market share of 49.9%, ranking first. Although Samsung Display will still rank first in the world in 2023, its market share of AMOLED mobile phone panels in 2023 has dropped from 63% in 2022 to 50%. This is mainly because domestic flexible AMOLED panel manufacturers have continued to seize orders at aggressive prices in the past year, which has had a great impact on Samsung Display's rigid and flexible panel shipments, causing Samsung Display's market share to be severely squeezed.

In 2023, the market share of LG Display, another South Korean AMOLED mobile phone panel manufacturer, also declined. In 2022, LG Display ranked third in the world with shipments of 50 million pieces, but now its ranking has dropped to fifth. The decline in LG Display's AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments actually started as early as 2022. Now, two consecutive years of decline have made LG Display anxious. LG Display is highly dependent on Apple mobile phones as a customer, and domestic panel leader BOE will expand the supply of AMOLED panels to Apple smartphones in 2023, further squeezing LG Display's market share.
With the continuous advancement and improvement of domestic AMOLED screen technology, domestic panel manufacturers have gradually gained more market share in the global market. In 2023, three domestic manufacturers will enter the top five in the world in AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments, and the market share of four domestic manufacturers will increase.
Among them, BOE's AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments in 2023 will increase by 44.7% year-on-year, ranking second in the world with a market share of 16.2%, and its share will increase by 3.2 percentage points compared with 2021. BOE has been in the field of flexible AMOLED for many years. Its AMOLED shipments have continued to grow significantly in recent years, reaching a new single-year shipment high in 2023. At a recent investor relations event, BOE said that prices of some flexible AMOLED panel products have been recovering significantly since the fourth quarter. It can be seen that the growth of the flexible AMOLED mobile phone panel market in 2024 is relatively certain.
Visionox's global AMOLED mobile phone panel shipment ranking will rise from fourth in 2022 to third in 2023. In that year, Visionox’s AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments increased by 68.4% year-on-year. The manufacturer with the strongest growth in AMOLED smartphone panel shipments in 2023 is Tianma Microelectronics. Its shipments increased by 259.4% year-on-year, ranking fourth in the world with a market share of 6.9%. It is worth mentioning that in 2022, Tianma Microelectronics’ AMOLED mobile phone panel shipments ranked only seventh in the world. Tianma Microelectronics has achieved considerable breakthroughs in technological innovation in recent years. In 2023, it will debut seven major innovative technologies, including super high-grade OLED displays.
