The industrialization of solid-state batteries has brought new development opportunities to the field of lithium battery materials.

At the beginning of 2024, overseas solid-state batteries have made new progress.

First, the Japanese battery company Maxwell developed a cylindrical all-solid-state battery (non-power) with 25 times the capacity of traditional prismatic batteries. Then PowerCo, a battery subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, successfully completed the durability test of the QuantumScape solid-state battery, proving its ultra-long battery life. This has once again attracted market attention in the field of solid-state batteries, and the progress of domestic solid-state battery industrialization has become a hot topic.

This means that the industrialization of solid-state batteries will undoubtedly bring new development opportunities to the field of lithium battery materials and promote technological iteration and innovation.

For example, Rongbai Technology has stated that it is currently developing key materials such as high-nickel ternary cathode materials, sulfide solid electrolytes, halide solid electrolytes and oxide solid electrolytes for sulfide all-solid-state batteries. Both vehicle and battery cell customers have shown leading performance in tests, and the production scale will be gradually expanded based on customer needs.

Xiangfenghua said that the silicon-carbon anode material product for solid-state batteries it developed is in the customer testing stage and has the conditions for industrialization. If there is market demand in the future, the company will carry out mass production according to customer needs.

Shanghai Xiba said that the company began to provide solid electrolytes to downstream battery manufacturers in early 2023. It has basically covered the leading battery manufacturers and is currently in the "sample delivery and feedback" stage.

In terms of auxiliary materials, according to disclosures from relevant companies, many aluminum-plastic film companies and copper foil companies have made forward-looking plans.

Because soft bags have clear advantages in terms of pole piece stacking form and weight, and are more suitable for solid-state battery systems, they are considered to be a clear technical route for future solid-state batteries.

In this context, domestic aluminum-plastic film companies may usher in new opportunities. Gaogong Lithium Battery learned that Lithium Shield aluminum-plastic film products have been supplied in batches by solid-state battery dark horse companies;

The company's aluminum-plastic film products for soft-pack batteries can be used in semi-solid batteries and are currently available in small batches.

In addition, in the field of lithium battery copper foil, porous copper foil can better adapt to solid-state batteries due to its light weight, improved module energy density, and the ability to better match metal oxide negative electrodes and lithium metal negative electrodes after the pores are filled with negative active materials. Demand for copper foil.

This also makes porous copper foil regarded as a new technological competition point, and many leading companies have made plans for this.

Defu Technology stated on the interactive platform that the porous copper foil products produced by the company are used as solutions for solid-state (condensed state) batteries and supercapacitor applications, and can well accelerate the infiltration effect of condensed matter battery electrolyte and tab welding. The advantage, simply put, is that it can solve the problem of lithium ion transmission in condensed matter. Currently, the company has completed sample delivery to nearly 10 companies, and customers of this product are all in the battery cell testing stage.

Nord Shares stated that the company has been conducting technical reserves of porous copper foil since 2018. In recent years, we have maintained R&D exchanges and cooperation with many manufacturers that develop and produce solid-state batteries, and have sent product samples.
