(NYSE stock code: VSH) announced the launch of a new high-speed silicon PIN photodiode with enhanced visible light sensitivity---VEMD2704, expanding its photodiode product portfolio. Vishay Semiconductors VEMD2704 is available in a small 2.0 mm x 1.8 mm x 0.6 mm top-view surface mount package. The transparent epoxy resin has industry-leading sensitivity, a fast switching time of 70 ns, and a capacitance as low as 17.6 pF, making it suitable for wearable devices. Precise signal detection.

The device released recently has a photosensitive area of ​​1.51 mm², has high light sensitivity (reverse photocurrent 1.17 µA, dark current 0.03 nA), and can detect visible light and near-infrared radiation from 350 nm to 1100 nm in a wide spectral range. Photodiodes are suitable for wearable devices such as fitness trackers and smart watches, and are used with green LEDs for optical heart rate detection and red LEDs for pulse oximetry detection.

Compared with the previous generation solution, VEMD2074 is smaller and easier to integrate into small products such as earbuds; the optical system can have several built-in photodiodes for more accurate signal detection; and it also improves the flexibility of sensor layout. The device also costs less than previous generation photodiodes, making it ideal for cost-sensitive devices such as smart bracelets.

The VEMD2704 has a half intensity angle of ±67°, an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C, and a peak sensitivity wavelength of 940 nm. The photodiode complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards, is halogen-free, has a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of J-STD-020 standard level 3, and can be stored in the workshop for 168 hours.

VEMD2704 is now available for sampling and mass production, with a lead time of 20 weeks.
